A Week with No Orders: What I Learned

How much did I make this week? To be honest, almost nothing.

Except for one unexpected sale: while I was working in the shared kitchen, another tenant caught the seeing my cooking beef noodle soup and asked, “What is that?” She ended up buying a bowl. That was it. Just one bowl. No website orders. No messages. Nothing else.

Yeah… I felt a bit down.

I Thought Hard Work Would Speak for Itself. It Doesn’t.

Looking back, I realized… I didn’t post anything this week. No updates. No photos. No reminders that Gubahmi exists and that orders are open. I was just quietly cooking, packaging, and waiting… hoping someone would remember to order.

But here’s the truth:

If you don’t speak up, no one knows what you’re doing.

It’s not about being pushy. It’s about being visible. I’m a small business without a storefront, without a big marketing budget. I can’t afford to be silent.

The Market Doesn’t Wait. And Customers Don’t Just Show Up.

I get it—sometimes we don’t want to bother people. I’ve had those thoughts too:

“I just posted last week, will it annoy people if I post again?”

But the result of staying quiet is simple—people forget you’re here. If I had just done one of these:

  • Posted an Instagram Story or RedNote showing what I’m cooking
  • Shared a tip on how to enjoy the beef noodle soup
  • Said, “Hey, I’m taking preorders this week!”

…there might’ve been one more order. And for me, every single order matters.

In the Disappointment, A Small Spark

That one sale from the kitchen tenant? It meant a lot.

That reminded me:

The product is good. I just haven’t done enough to get it in front of the right people.

Goals for Next Week

Still a long way to go. But now, I know what to do differently.
